Welcome to Plant&Leaf and our range of family grown plants. The second photo provides a sample of a single plant from the current batch available. Please note that usually the plant will arrive NOT IN FLOWER. Please note the Pot size displayed on the heading of each product.

All of our plants are grown outdoors in nature and are exposed to the natural elements. Sometimes this means a leaf could have been chewed here and there or have a blemish or two – but we do our best to send the best plants we can on every order.

Spathoglottis, commonly known as ground orchids, are beautiful and relatively easy to care for. Here are some tips to keep them healthy:

  1. Light: Spathoglottis prefer bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, especially during the hottest parts of the day, as it can scorch the leaves.

  2. Temperature: They thrive in warm temperatures, ideally between 18°C to 29°C. Protect them from drafts and sudden temperature drops.

  3. Watering: Keep the potting mix consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch, and be sure to water the soil directly, avoiding wetting the leaves to prevent fungal diseases.

  4. Humidity: These orchids appreciate moderate to high humidity levels. You can increase humidity by placing the pot on a tray of pebbles filled with water or using a humidifier, especially if you live in a dry climate.

  5. Potting Mix: Use a well-draining potting mix that retains some moisture, like a mix of orchid bark, perlite, and sphagnum moss. Repotting may be necessary every couple of years to refresh the potting mix and provide space for the roots to grow.

  6. Fertilizing: Feed your Spathoglottis regularly during the growing season (spring to early fall) with a balanced orchid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Reduce or stop fertilizing during the dormant winter months.

  7. Air Circulation: Good air circulation is essential to prevent fungal infections. Ensure there's adequate airflow around the plant, but avoid placing it in direct drafts.

  8. Pruning: Trim away any yellowing or dead leaves to keep the plant tidy and prevent the spread of disease.

  9. Pests and Diseases: Keep an eye out for common orchid pests like aphids, mealybugs, and scale insects. Treat any infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Also, watch for signs of fungal diseases such as root rot, which can occur if the plant is kept too wet.

  10. Winter Care: If you live in a region with cold winters, bring your Spathoglottis indoors when temperatures drop below 10°C. Provide bright, indirect light and maintain regular watering, but reduce fertilization during the dormant period.

By following these care tips, you can enjoy healthy and vibrant Spathoglottis orchids in your home or garden.
