Welcome to Plant&Leaf and our range of family grown plants. The first photo serves as a representative display, showcasing the beauty of a mature plant in flower. The second photo provides a sample of a single plant from the current batch available. Please note the Pot size displayed on the heading of each product.
All of our plants are grown outdoors in nature and are exposed to the natural elements. Sometimes this means a leaf could have been chewed here and there or have a blemish or two – but we do our best to send the best plants we can on every order.
Hoyas, commonly known as wax plants, are beautiful and relatively low-maintenance houseplants. Here are some tips on how to keep them healthy:
-
Light: Hoyas prefer bright, indirect light. They can tolerate some direct sunlight, especially morning sunlight, but avoid harsh afternoon rays as they can scorch the leaves. If you notice the leaves turning yellow or pale, it might be getting too much light.
-
Watering: Allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it's essential not to let the plant sit in soggy soil. During the growing season (spring and summer), water more frequently, and reduce watering during the dormant period in fall and winter.
-
Humidity: Hoyas appreciate moderate to high humidity levels. You can increase humidity by misting the leaves regularly, placing a humidity tray filled with water and pebbles beneath the pot, or using a humidifier.
-
Temperature: Hoyas prefer temperatures between 15°C to 27°C.
-
Potting Mix: Use a well-draining potting mix that retains some moisture but doesn't become waterlogged. A mix of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark works well. Repot your Hoya every couple of years to refresh the soil and provide more room for growth.
-
Fertilizing: Feed your Hoya with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half-strength during the growing season (spring and summer) every 4-6 weeks. Reduce or stop fertilizing during the dormant season.
-
Pruning: Regular pruning can help keep your Hoya plant tidy and promote bushier growth. Trim leggy stems and remove any dead or yellowing leaves. You can propagate the cuttings to grow new plants.
-
Support: Provide some support for your Hoya to climb or trail. They naturally vine and can be trained to grow on trellises, stakes, or in hanging baskets.
-
Pests and Diseases: Keep an eye out for common pests like aphids, mealybugs, and spider mites. Wipe down the leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and inspect for any signs of pests. Treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
By following these care tips, you can enjoy healthy and thriving Hoya plants in your home.
