All of our plants are grown outdoors in nature and are exposed to the natural elements. Sometimes this means a leaf could have been chewed here and there or have a blemish or two – but we do our best to send the best plants we can on every order.
Fittonia, also known as nerve plant, is a beautiful and popular houseplant known for its striking, colorful foliage. Here are some tips to help you keep your Fittonia healthy and thriving:
-
Light: Fittonias prefer bright, indirect light. Avoid exposing them to direct sunlight, as this can scorch their delicate leaves. Place them near a window where they can receive filtered sunlight or use artificial grow lights if natural light is limited.
-
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Fittonias are native to tropical regions and prefer slightly humid conditions. Water them when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Avoid letting the soil completely dry out, as this can cause the leaves to wilt.
-
Humidity: Fittonias thrive in high humidity environments. You can increase humidity by misting the plant regularly, placing a humidity tray filled with water and pebbles beneath the pot, or using a humidifier near the plant.
-
Temperature: Fittonias prefer temperatures between 15-27°C. Avoid exposing them to cold drafts or sudden temperature fluctuations.
-
Soil: Plant Fittonias in well-draining potting soil that retains moisture. A mixture of peat moss, perlite, and sphagnum moss works well.
-
Fertilization: Feed your Fittonia with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Avoid fertilizing during the winter months when growth slows down.
-
Pruning: Regularly pinch or trim back leggy stems to encourage bushier growth and maintain the plant's compact shape.
-
Pests and Diseases: Keep an eye out for common houseplant pests like aphids, spider mites, and mealybugs. Treat any infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Also, ensure good air circulation around the plant to prevent fungal diseases.
-
Repotting: Repot your Fittonia every 1-2 years, or when it outgrows its current pot. Choose a slightly larger pot with drainage holes and fresh potting soil.
By following these care tips, you can enjoy a lush and vibrant Fittonia plant in your home or office space.
