All of our plants are grown outdoors in nature and are exposed to the natural elements. Sometimes this means a leaf could have been chewed here and there or have a blemish or two – but we do our best to send the best plants we can on every order.

Calatheas are stunning plants known for their vibrant foliage and unique patterns. Here are some general tips on how to care for them:

1. Light: Calatheas prefer bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch their leaves, so it's best to place them in a spot where they receive filtered sunlight or in a bright room away from direct rays.

2. Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water your Calathea when the top few centermeters of soil feels dry to the touch. Ensure proper drainage to prevent waterlogging, which can lead to root rot.

3. Humidity: Calatheas are native to tropical regions and thrive in high humidity. Mist the leaves regularly or place a humidifier nearby to maintain a humidity level of around 50-60%. You can also create a pebble tray by placing a tray filled with water and pebbles beneath the plant's pot.

4. Temperature: Calatheas prefer temperatures between18°C to 27°C. Avoid placing them near drafts, air conditioners, or heaters, as sudden temperature changes can stress the plant.

5. Soil: Use a well-draining, peat-based potting mix to ensure good aeration and moisture retention. Avoid heavy soils that can become compacted and retain too much water.

6. Fertilization: Feed your Calathea with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength during the growing season (spring and summer) every 4-6 weeks. Reduce fertilization frequency or stop altogether during the winter months when growth slows down.

7. Pruning and Cleaning: Remove any yellowing or dead leaves promptly to encourage new growth. Wipe the leaves gently with a damp cloth to keep them clean and free from dust, which can hinder photosynthesis.

8. Potting: Repot your Calathea every 1-2 years, or when it becomes root-bound. Choose a pot that is one size larger than its current container, and ensure it has drainage holes at the bottom.

9. Pests: Keep an eye out for common houseplant pests like spider mites, mealybugs, and aphids. If you notice any infestations, treat them promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
