Welcome to Plant&Leaf and our range of family grown plants. The first photo serves as a representative display, showcasing the beauty of a mature plant. The second photo provides a sample of a single plant from the current batch available. Please note the Pot size displayed on the heading of each product.
All of our plants are grown outdoors in nature and are exposed to the natural elements. Sometimes this means a leaf could have been chewed here and there or have a blemish or two – but we do our best to send the best plants we can on every order.
Ctenanthe are a beautiful plant known for their striking foliage, and they can be quite rewarding to care for. Here are some general tips on how to keep your Ctenanthe healthy:
-
Light: Ctenanthe prefer bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch its leaves, so placing it near a window where it can receive filtered sunlight is ideal. Avoid placing it in dark corners or areas with low light.
-
Temperature: Keep your Ctenanthe in a warm environment with temperatures between 18°C to 27°C. Avoid sudden temperature drops or drafts, as they can cause stress to the plant.
-
Humidity: Ctenanthe thrive in high humidity environments. You can increase humidity by misting the leaves regularly, placing a humidifier nearby, or placing the pot on a tray filled with pebbles and water. Grouping plants together can also help create a more humid microclimate.
-
Watering: Water your Ctenanthe consistently, keeping the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out slightly between waterings, and avoid letting the soil dry out completely. Overwatering can lead to root rot, while underwatering can cause the leaves to wilt.
-
Soil: Plant your Ctenanthe in well-draining potting soil rich in organic matter. A mix of peat moss, perlite, and compost works well. Make sure the pot has drainage holes to prevent water from pooling at the bottom.
-
Fertilizing: During the growing season in spring and summer, feed your Ctenanthe with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks. Reduce fertilization during fall and winter when the plant is dormant.
-
Pruning: Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves regularly to encourage new growth and maintain the plant's appearance. You can also trim back leggy growth to promote bushiness.
-
Repotting: Repot your Ctenanthe every 1-2 years in spring if it has outgrown its current pot. Choose a pot that is slightly larger than the current one and refresh the soil to provide the plant with fresh nutrients.
-
Pests and diseases: Keep an eye out for common houseplant pests such as spider mites, aphids, and mealybugs. If you notice any signs of pests or diseases, isolate the plant and treat it with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
By following these care tips, you can keep your Ctenanthe healthy and thriving in your home.
