All of our plants are grown outdoors in nature and are exposed to the natural elements. Sometimes this means a leaf could have been chewed here and there or have a blemish or two – but we do our best to send the best plants we can on every order.

Iris foetidissima, commonly known as theGladwin iris, is a perennial plant known for its attractive foliage and unique orange seed pods. Here's how to keep Iris foetidissima thriving:

  1. Light: Iris foetidissima grows well in partial to full shade. While it can tolerate some sunlight, especially in the morning or late afternoon, it generally prefers shaded conditions. Avoid exposing it to intense, direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

  2. Soil: Plant Iris foetidissima in well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter. A loamy soil with good drainage is ideal.

  3. Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings.

  4. Fertilization: Iris foetidissima generally doesn't require much fertilization. If your soil is poor or lacking in nutrients, you can apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in the spring. Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can lead to excessive foliage growth at the expense of flowering.

  5. Pruning: Remove any dead or yellowing leaves as needed to maintain the plant's appearance and health. You can also remove spent flower stalks after blooming to tidy up the plant.

  6. Pest and Disease Control: Iris foetidissima is generally resistant to pests and diseases. However, keep an eye out for signs of aphids, slugs, or snails, especially in humid conditions. Treat any infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or other appropriate remedies.

By providing the right growing conditions and minimal maintenance, you can keep your Iris foetidissima healthy and thriving, adding beauty to your garden with its attractive foliage and unique seed pods.
