Product Details
Welcome to Plant&Leaf and our range of family grown plants. The first photo serves as a representative display, showcasing the beauty of a mature plant. The second photo provides a sample of a single plant from the current batch available. Please note the Pot size displayed on the heading of each product.
All of our plants are grown outdoors in nature and are exposed to the natural elements. Sometimes this means a leaf could have been chewed here and there or have a blemish or two ā but we do our best to send the best plants we can on every order.
Jewel orchids (Ludisia, Macodes etc.) are prized more for their stunning foliage than their flowers. Here's how to keep them healthy and thriving:
š” Quick Care Guide for Jewel Orchids
šæ Light
-
Low to medium indirect light is ideal.
-
Avoid direct sun ā it can scorch the leaves.
-
Can tolerate lower light than most orchids.
š”ļø Temperature & Humidity
-
Temperature: 18ā27°C
-
Humidity: 50ā70% is ideal.
-
Mist occasionally or use a humidity tray/humidifier in dry environments.
š§ Watering
-
Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy.
-
Water when the top few centimeters of soil feels dry.
-
Use distilled or rainwater if your tap water is mineral-heavy.
š± Soil
-
Use a well-draining, moisture-retentive mix:
-
Example: orchid bark + sphagnum moss + perlite + potting soil.
-
š½ļø Fertilizing
-
Use a balanced, diluted fertilizer (e.g., 1/4 strength) every 4ā6 weeks during growing season (spring/summer).
-
Reduce in winter.
šŖ“ Potting
-
Repot every 1ā2 years or when rootbound.
-
Choose shallow pots with drainage holes.
š§½ Extra Tips
-
Wipe dust from leaves to keep them looking shiny and healthy.
-
Jewel orchids are terrestrial, so unlike many orchids, they grow in soil ā not air.
