Jewel orchids (Ludisia, Macodes etc.) are prized more for their stunning foliage than their flowers. Here's how to keep them healthy and thriving:

💡 Quick Care Guide for Jewel Orchids

🌿 Light

• Low to medium indirect light is ideal.

• Avoid direct sun — it can scorch the leaves.

• Can tolerate lower light than most orchids.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

• Temperature: 18–27°C

• Humidity: 50–70% is ideal.

• Mist occasionally or use a humidity tray/humidifier in dry environments.

💧 Watering

• Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy.

• Water when the top few centimeters of soil feels dry.

• Use distilled or rainwater if your tap water is mineral-heavy.

🌱 Soil

• Use a well-draining, moisture-retentive mix:

  • Example: orchid bark + sphagnum moss + perlite + potting soil.

🍽️ Fertilizing

• Use a balanced, diluted fertilizer (e.g., 1/4 strength) every 4–6 weeks during growing season (spring/summer).

• Reduce in winter.

🪴 Potting

• Repot every 1–2 years or when rootbound.

• Choose shallow pots with drainage holes.

🧽 Extra Tips

• Wipe dust from leaves to keep them looking shiny and healthy.

• Jewel orchids are terrestrial, so unlike many orchids, they grow in soil — not air.
