Welcome to Plant&Leaf and our range of family grown plants. The first photo serves as a representative display, showcasing the beauty of a mature plant. The second photo provides a sample of a single plant from the current batch available. Please note the Pot size displayed on the heading of each product.

All of our plants are grown outdoors in nature and are exposed to the natural elements. Sometimes this means a leaf could have been chewed here and there or have a blemish or two – but we do our best to send the best plants we can on every order.

Maranta, also known as prayer plant, is another beautiful and popular houseplant known for its unique foliage and tendency to fold its leaves upward at night, resembling praying hands. Here are some tips on how to keep your Maranta healthy:

  1. Light: Maranta prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves. Place your Maranta near a window with filtered light or in a location where it receives bright, indirect light throughout the day.

  2. Temperature: Maranta thrives in temperatures between 18°C to 24°C. Avoid exposing it to cold drafts or sudden temperature changes, as this can cause stress to the plant.

  3. Humidity: Maranta prefers high humidity environments. Mist the leaves regularly to increase humidity, or place a humidifier nearby. You can also place the pot on a tray filled with pebbles and water to create a humid microclimate.

  4. Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Water your Maranta when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch, but avoid letting the soil dry out completely. Overwatering can lead to root rot, while underwatering can cause the leaves to wilt.

  5. Soil: Plant your Maranta in well-draining potting soil rich in organic matter. A mix of peat moss, perlite, and compost works well. Make sure the pot has drainage holes to prevent waterlogging.

  6. Fertilizing: Feed your Maranta with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks during the growing season in spring and summer. Reduce fertilization during fall and winter when the plant is dormant.

  7. Pruning: Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves regularly to encourage new growth and maintain the plant's appearance. You can also trim back leggy growth to promote bushiness.

  8. Propagation: Maranta can be propagated through division. Divide the plant during repotting, ensuring that each division has a good portion of roots and foliage. Plant the divisions in separate pots with fresh potting soil.

  9. Repotting: Repot your Maranta every 1-2 years in spring if it has outgrown its current pot. Choose a pot that is slightly larger than the current one and refresh the soil to provide the plant with fresh nutrients.

  10. Pests and diseases: Keep an eye out for common houseplant pests such as spider mites, aphids, and mealybugs. If you notice any signs of pests or diseases, isolate the plant and treat it with insecticidal soap or neem oil.

With proper care, your Maranta can thrive and add beauty to your indoor space.
